Farm History In 1987, Allison and Kimberlyn, your innkeepers' daughters, were on Orcas Island and discovered the farm. The original property was a working Dairy Farm. In keeping with the old buildings, the vision was to restore the old time feeling and become stewards of a beautiful piece of property at the base of Turtleback Mountain. Everyone that has watched this farm become what it is today will tell you that it has been a family project that has happened one post at a time. The Smart family members were city people with a country heart and Walking Horse Country Farm is truly an American dream come true !
Allison was the trainer and manager of the Farm for 6 years while Doug and Jeri enjoyed developing the 25 acres into a Guest Ranch including a lodging , ponds, open space with fenced pastures, bridle trails, an indoor and out door arena and a barn full of history. The farm has developed into wonderful place to enjoy for every one that appreciates seeing a family horse farm. Residence and visitors of the San Juan Islands are welcome to this recreational host property. Doug loves bird watching, fishing, shot putting, and creating the beautiful bridle trails. Jeri's interests include collecting antique furniture, making antique reproduction porcelain dolls, photography, writing and story telling. The Little House on the Farm became the interior design expression of Kimberlyn Smart Totten and Jeri Smart and has all the wonderful amenities of home. Seasons bring different moods, you will find just being on the farm makes you feel relaxed.
